Parsimonious Sale Sharks

SteveORugby

Sale Sharks RUFC are currently being labelled parsimonious, yeah I had to look it up as well. Basically they haven’t conceded a try in 4 games which is a record for the Guinness premiership. Sale really disappointed me last year, but I have a good feeling this year. We just have to wait and see how many of their squad get called up for the Autumn Internationals. Just one last thing, next time you watch Sale play have a look at Chabal’s arms, they are freaky long. I remember a Sky Sports commentator mentioning that when he sits on a chair his knuckles can actually touch the floor. They don’t call him the Caveman for nothing.

Singapore Ignites Formula 1

Billy WhizzFormula 1

Awesome race, awesome scenery! That’s the most I’ve enjoyed a Formula 1 race in a long long time. From what is pretty much a repdictable boring sport to enough uncertanity that even the commentators didn’t know what was going on. My highlight was when Fernando Alonoso’s pit crew got on the radio to tell him that they didn’t know what strategies the other teams were doing and just to go for it! You take the maths and tactics out of Formula 1 and all of a sudden it’s exciting again. Next year I’d like to see the Wheel Of Fortune Strategy Randomizer used to decide how many pit stops each driver has to take. That should shake thing up nicely.

Overall it was a great race for McLaren with Lewis Hamilton finishing third and pulling out his lead of Massa to 7 pioints with 3 races left. It basically means that Hamilton can finish second to Massa in the remaining races and still win the championship. Being the cynical bastard I am though I do wonder if Massa would have been given his penalty if he wasn’t already so far behind after dragging his refuelling hose down the pit lane? I reckon he might have got away with a fine if he wan’t out of contention already.

Anyhoo, don’t want to finish on a downer, it was a cracking race on a propper racing circuit. The driver looked fooked at the end of it. It was also nice to see Kimi “The Robot” taking a tumble, it’s great he ewasn’t hurt put as a racer he’s dull as dish water. “Consistent” does not make for exciting racing. Bumps, Formula 1 needs more bumps!

Everton – Liverpool, The Friendly Derby

Billy WhizzFootball

It kicks off in a couple of hours time, probably one of the strangest derby games you get in football. Families are split as the red and blue halves of Liverpool sit side-by-side. I love watching these games, mainly I’ll admit because I’m always hoping the reds get turned over but it’s also because this game is everything an old school derby should be. Challenges flying in, a good dose of hatred between the players but all with a sense of “we’ll shake hands” at the end of it. The banter between Everton and Liverpool fans is normally great as well, it’s probably the only game of the season where I use Fanzone on Sky. Kick off is at 12:45 and Sky Sports are covering, not bloody Setanta (that’s a rant that’s waiting to be done!)

On top of the merseyside derby the other Premier League games today are:-

15:00 Aston Villa - Sunderland
15:00 Fulham - West Ham
15:00 Manchester Utd - Bolton
15:00 Middlesbrough - West Brom
15:00 Newcastle - Blackburn
15:00 Stoke - Chelsea
17:30 Arsenal - Hull

F1 In Singapore

Bill BummeryFormula 1

If you’re anything like me you like to know the Formula 1 track before the race, it helps you appreciate where the drivers are in relation to each other.  Seeing as how the usual method (F1 computer game) isn’t available for Singapore yet I trawled this up on YouTube.  My first impression is that it looks like a relatively slow technical circuit.

Super League Semi Finals

SteveORugby

Tonight sees Wigan take on Leeds at Headingly. This will be a cracker of a game. Leeds have played consistently well over the season and were only beaten by 1 point to the top spot by St Helens. They were however royally frashed last week by the Saints, which could be bad news for Wigan, as they may be all worked up to take revenge. Saying that, since Wigan got publicly slated by their own Chairman saying they had no pride or passion for the shirt, they have played exceptionally well.

My head says Leeds but my heart and everything else says WIGAN. In fact no, its unanimous, Wigan will win. Even if you have never watched a Rugby match before, take 10/15 minutess and I promise you, you won’t be disappointed. This will have everything and the players will give everything, who ever loses this walks away with NOTHING. I honestly can’t wait.

What Next For West Ham?

Bill BummeryFootball

30 million seems quite a low price to pay for keeping your position in the Premier League.  I’m sure if you offered it to any of the teams relegated since the “big money” came into the game they’d bite your hand off.  So why then are West Ham looking to appeal?

I’m no legal expert by any means for from a lamens point of view what I see is that they did clearly breach Premier League rules by having Carlos Tevez play who in turn scored the goals that kept them up.  Against the general flow of opinion, rather than having points deducted they end up with a fine and keep their Premier League status.  Whilst 30 million will help Sheffield United (the team relegated in their place) it still doesn’t seem quite right.  The best solution would be to hand over the money and keep a low profile for a while.  Somehow I doubt that will happen, too many egos involved.

There is also the small matter of what happened at Sheffield United during all this.  I feel sorry most the Neil Warnock who was his usual outspoken self.  As so often with these things it is the person in the right that suffers the most.  West Ham should be made to compensate him as well.

At the end of the day this is a victory for Sheffield United in monetary terms only, they’re not going to find themselves back in the Premier League.  That’s why West Ham should keep quite and think themselves lucky.
