Can England Get Any Worse?

That’s got to be the question on the lips of every England fan as they prepare to play France at the Stade de France in the last game of the 2010 Six Nations. If you look back at their Six Nations performances this year it doesn’t make great reading.
First of England were very lucky to get away with it against Wales, lets face it if it wasn’t for some ill discipline in the Welsh side there is every chance that England would have lost that game. Then against Italy we were treated to a “special” display of kicking as the 2 wingers and full back continued to kick possession away at every opportunity. England did win but the post match attitude from the English players (is denial too soft a word) showed exactly what state the camp was in…one of self delusion. Wide gaping gaps were being papered over with the mantra of “it’s the result that matters” being chanted over and over. What we England fans really wanted more than anything was some entertainment, is that too much to ask?
Since then England lost to Ireland and then scraped a draw against a Scottish team that looked superior in every part of the pitch. This reminds me of the English football team during the last 5 years, are we really fooling ourselves into believing that we are better than what we are?
The question is what do we have in the locker against a French team that has clearly been the best team in the 2010 Six Nations. If worst came to the worst would it do the England team any real harm to come down to reality with a bump – maybe it’s needed. Either way I’ll be watching the game and cheering on England, that’s what we do a fans, managers and players come and go but the one constant is the fans. Maybe the current crop of players would do well to remember that.
