Now before anyone has a go, although I’m not a boxing fan, I am a Muhammad Ali fan. I think he was not only a great boxer, but a great Showman, and that’s what any sport needs, larger than life showmen who get people talking. What I can’t stand is the way he gets wheeled out all the time now he’s a vegetable. Does he actually know where the “flip” he is? Who is organising these things for him? Surely he just wants to be left alone to die in peace with at least some dignity. Anyway the sight of him being pushed around a golf course and “introduced” to the Ryder Cup teams was too much for the normal stoic Nick Faldo and reduced him to tears. I think it was pity not awe?
