Moto GP vs Formula 1 At Spa FrancorchampsBookmark and Share

Billy WhizzMotorsport

What a weekend for motorsport that was. The Belgium Grand Prix delivered one of the most memorable races in Formula 1 that we’ve seen in a long time (Hello Sebastien Buemi). Then just to finish the day of we had a great Moto GP race at the Indianapolis Raceway in the US. So as a big fan of both sports the question is what was the most entertaining, Formula 1 or Moto GP?

I was about to say that any other weekend and I’d probably go for the Moto GP but I’m thinking that this year that’s probably not right! The Moto GP championship has been a 2 horse run away this year and even with all the overtaking and race action that the bikes naturally produce the actual winners have been mostly predictable. If anything todays race with Rossi and Pedrosa falling off at least made the battle for 2nd and then third exciting. It was nice to see some different faces on the podium but it still remains that 5th or 6th is the best that most of the field can hope for.

The same can not be said of Formula 1 this year. Sure it started of as a bit of a Brawn procession but now, wow! Anybody who can predict who’ll finish in the top eight is a better man than me. Even the aweful circuit at Valencia last week produced a race that was very watchable and yet another new winner for this season. It was obvious then that my favourite circuit, Spa Francorchamps would produce a stunning Belgium Grand Prix. Qualifying was exciting enough but the race was something else, it had the lot – crashes, over taking and that feeling that you just didn’t know who was going to win until right till the end.

So this weekend the Formula 1 has won for me, there have been races in the last couple of seasons that you’d be embarrsed to make somebody sit through but this year it’s been bang on form. The Moto GP on the other hand is in danger of becoming the Yamaha club and whilst it’s nice to watch Rossi and Lorenzo go at it every week a bit of a change wouldn’t go amiss, with any luck Danny Pedrosa can kick on from this week and stir it up at the front a bit.
