What Next For West Ham?Bookmark and Share

UK Sports BlogFootball

30 million seems quite a low price to pay for keeping your position in the Premier League.  I’m sure if you offered it to any of the teams relegated since the “big money” came into the game they’d bite your hand off.  So why then are West Ham looking to appeal?

I’m no legal expert by any means for from a lamens point of view what I see is that they did clearly breach Premier League rules by having Carlos Tevez play who in turn scored the goals that kept them up.  Against the general flow of opinion, rather than having points deducted they end up with a fine and keep their Premier League status.  Whilst 30 million will help Sheffield United (the team relegated in their place) it still doesn’t seem quite right.  The best solution would be to hand over the money and keep a low profile for a while.  Somehow I doubt that will happen, too many egos involved.

There is also the small matter of what happened at Sheffield United during all this.  I feel sorry most the Neil Warnock who was his usual outspoken self.  As so often with these things it is the person in the right that suffers the most.  West Ham should be made to compensate him as well.

At the end of the day this is a victory for Sheffield United in monetary terms only, they’re not going to find themselves back in the Premier League.  That’s why West Ham should keep quite and think themselves lucky.
