Who Will Win The Formula 1 Drivers Championship?Bookmark and Share

Bill BummeryFormula 1

As predicted its all come down to the last race of the season and my favourite track of them all, Interlagos in Brazil.  It’s one of those rare tracks in Formula 1 that really allows the drivers to have a chance at overtaking and as such 9 times out of 10 it’s an incident filled race.  It used to be like that when it was the opening race of the season and it hasn’t dulled any with being the last race now!  As an aside Mexico was also one of my favourites, awesome straight!

As I type this the first Friday practice session is under way and for all but the most die hard Ferrari fans Lewis Hamilton has got to be odds on favourite to take the title.  Massa might stake a claim but seeing how slow he has been in some races with what has unquestionably been the fastest car this year (the Ferrari) I don’t think he’s worthy.  The truth is if it wasn’t for the stewards then Lewis Hamilton would already be the champion, the last thing Formula 1 needs at the moment is a title decided by the powers that be.  Well not blatantly anyway, it’s OK for them to meddle in the background but to openly influence the championship would be a disaster for the sport.  Formula 1 needs the fastest and most skilful driver to be champion and at the moment that man is Lewis Hamilton.  Now if Alonso was in the Ferrari this year things may have turned out differently, but that’s a whole new story…

The final race of the season is live on ITV Sunday tea time.  Prefect timing for you to have your feet up with a nice roast and enjoy what will hopefully be a British driver being crowned as the youngest Formula 1 champion of all time.
