Why Are People Defending Eduardo?Bookmark and Share

adminFootball

I can understand why Arsenal may try to defend their player getting a 2 match ban for what is at most a yellow card offence (if caught) but why are others rushing to defend Eduardo?

Andy Gray seems to sum up the general feeling, going on to spout some nonsense about how far back do we punish players for cheating? Listen Andy, it’s totally irrelevant how far we go back, because we don’t. What we do is start to punish cheats now in the hope that diving, cheating foreign players learn that it’s not acceptable to fall over all the time. Whilst there at it I think they should also be punished for giving high fives when they do win a penalty, or at the very least give the defender one free punch at the smarmy bastard whooping and high fiving.

The simple truth is that Eduardo cheated in order to win a penalty which was then converted into a goal, changing the rest of the match. If he was caught and cautioned then who knows, Celtic may have stood a chance so as it is UEFA are punishing him not just for diving but for cheating in a way that had an influence over the final result. A 2 match ban for that is fairly light if you ask me.

What UEFA and the FA must do now is use this as a precedent for other players. I repeat again, highly paid, professional sportsmen need to know that cheating is not acceptable! For teams that want to whinge about it maybe being docked points what put it into perspective? Then again if that was the case and Manchester United still had Ronaldo maybe relegation would be on the cards! Everybody knows that Arsene Wenger is managing in the wrong league, he likes fairy footballers who fall over at the merest sniff of a fart and all tackling to be taken out of the game, there are plenty of leagues in Europe that would suite him well. I just hope that if this case really does set a precedent that we can get English football back to being English, fast paced, full of action with plenty of honest tackles going in.
